Become A Guest Writer For Our Blog

Do you love writing? Do you have a story to share with the world? Then become a contributor on our site.

My Sleepy Monkey is looking for collaborators to write articles for MySleepyMonkey.com. We are excited to build this blog into the ultimate resource for anything related to kid’s room décor. We’re looking for experienced parents and bloggers with good insight to share. However, it’s okay if you’re just a passionate writer without parenting experience.

Guest writers use the exposure they get from us to promote their work and personal brand. But, it has to be done transparently with our readers and relevant to the mission of our blog.

Guest blogging is an excellent way to share information about your passion, knowledge, and business. Whether it about kids decor, pregnancy, DIY, baby products – to our esteemed readers.

As a guest writer, you’re your own boss. There’s no specific timeline for your article submission. You can contribute whenever you feel like it.

If you’d like to communicate your knowledge and become a guest writer, this is a great opportunity.

What we expect

Here’s what we expect from you. Please read carefully.

Topics:

All articles are related to anything about a kid’s room. We make exceptions when the subjects are about sleep and children. So it’s okay to write about playrooms, cosleeping, kids napping in the airport, etc.

Original content:

All contributions must be original works of yours that have not been published anywhere else

Word count:

Our articles are all between 1,000 to 3,000 words in length. We aim for quality over quantity. Meaning, we are more concerned about the information inside the article than the word count. Each word in the article must provide value to the reader. However, anything under 1,000 words will not be published.

Research:

You’ll need to do an in-depth analysis of the topic. The research behind the article is critical. The goal is to provide the best information to the reader. Articles must be pack with useful information and deliver in an entertaining format.

Formating:

Formating the article is also critical. Each piece should be structured in multiple sub-titles and sub-paragraphs. Sentences (and paragraphs) should be short and easy to read. Readers shouldn’t have to read through unnecessary and long sentences to get the information they are looking for. Avoid long introductions and unnecessary words to increase word count. Each sentence should have a purpose. Paragraphs should be short — 2 to 3 sentences to help break up thoughts and look better on the blog.

Besides the structure of the articles, we try to deliver the information in the best format possible. Meaning, that you should add bullet lists, tables, graphs, illustrations, and/or Youtube videos when needed. Some information is better understood with visuals than words.

Images:

Each article has a least 1 featured image. If you include your own photos, make sure the resolution is good, and you have the right to use them. Otherwise, we do have a Shutterstock.com account. Search for the best images to illustrates your article, and note the links for each. Send me the link to the photos, and I will download them for you. We reserve the right to use alternate images of our own and complete our own edits.

Introduction:

Start your article with an introduction paragraph(s). Catch the reader’s attention by obviously describing the topics you’ll cover. Tell the readers why exactly they must read your article. Why should they continue reading, and what’s will they learn from it?

Conclusion:

End your pieces with a conclusion paragraph(s) (the takeaway or the verdict). Wrap up your content article and recall to the reader what they learned and how this information will help them.

Table of content:

Most articles start with a table of content with links to sub-sections of the article. Build this table of content by listing all the sub-headings of your article.

The title:

You must keep in mind the title while you write the article. This will help stay focus on the main subject and avoid getting too deep on particular sub-topics. A useful tip is to put yourself in the reader’s mind and ask yourself if your current writing aligns with the reader’s objective.

Writing:

The article should be writing a friendly tone like you are talking to the reader (You and I). Please, use Grammarly (or any other tool) to proofread your article and make your writing is easy to read and concise.

Links:

We encourage you to link to any cited sources. Whether it’s governmental, well-known experts, media, or any other trusted sources. We also allow links in the article, but please make sure they are relevant to the content. For example, if you want to link to a home cleaning services company in Australia, don’t simply drop the link in the article randomly. We will simply delete it and publish the article without the link. Be creative instead. Ask the cleaning business owners for a quote and cite them inside the body of the article.

Author bio:

We need a short biography of yourself to add at the bottom of your article(s). Shortly describe who you are and why you have credibility over this subject. (Are you a children expert, do you have kids, are you passionate about home decor, etc.) You can mention a social media profile or blog in this section. Remember that the bio will be the same on all your article. Please also provide us with a real picture of yourself.

What you can expect

We appreciate your collaboration, and therefore, here’s what you can expect from us:

  • Your article will be published within a week maximum
  • Do-follow link in your bio and in the article
  • Longterm collaboration

How to proceed

Attention to detail is very important. We aim for the most efficient communication possible. Here are our 4 steps procedures:

1- Read our blog

Before contacting us, we expect you had read some of our articles. It’s ideal to truly understand what our blog is about and the tones of writing.

2- Send us a first email with topic ideas

Write to [email protected] with an introduction of yourself and the topics you’d like to cover. Tell us about yourself and your motivation to become a guest writer. Send your article ideas, and I’ll tell you which one aligns more with our editorial plan (kid’s room decor). Please avoid generic topics or topics we already covered. Do research on the blog, and check if the topics are not already being treated.

Don’t you have a specific topic in mind? No problem, I have a list of subjects for future articles, and maybe you would be interested in choosing from this list. Simply ask for the list!

3- Send us a second email with finish article

Send us your article to [email protected]. After completing your article, make sure to double-check with the expectations listed above. We typically accept article submissions as Google Docs, but Word documents are also received.

Important! The article must be ready to copy/paste into our blog without as little editing as possible. This means titles, sub-titles, paragraphs, lists, images, links, author bio, etc., are all formated correctly inside 1 document.

You must do your best at providing a good article. We won’t ask for modifications. If the article is good, one of us will do the editing and publish it. If it’s poorly researched, hard to read, or any of the expected elements listed above are missing, we won’t post it. We truly appreciate you taking the time to submit your contribution. Still, we receive too many applications to answer them all. I hope you’ll understand.

4- We will contact you

If your article has met our expectations (all listed above). We will contact you to let you know when your article is published.

It’s that easy, and soon you will be inspiring many future moms!
